Fifth seeded Russian tennis cutie pie, Elena Dementieva, has been beaten out of the 2008 U.S. Open in the Semifinal match by 2nd seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.
It was a straight sets loss, 4-6, 4-6 for Elena Dementieva. Jankovic proved to be too tough in that match, as Dementieva just couldn’t pull it together enough to get the job done.
This was Dementieva’s best showing in the U.S. Open since her appearance in the Semifinal in 2000. It was her 2nd straight Semifinal in a Grand Slam. Dementieva was beaten by Venus Williams in the Semifinal at Wimbledon. Dementieva has made it to the Final of a Grand Slam twice, but has yet to win one. She was hoping this would be her year. Even though this was a disappointing loss, Dementieva is still feeling great about her Olympic Gold medal. It was a good year for her.
