Ana Ivanovic drops to # 3

Sexy, Serbian tennis cutie pie, Ana Ivanovic, has dropped to # 3 on the world rankings as of 9/8/08. She had been ranked # 1 the previous week.
Getting beat in the second round of the U.S. Open hurt Ana Ivanovic’s ranking. The world # 1 should not be defeated by someone like Julie Coin of France who was ranked 188th in the world, a qualifier who was playing in her first ever Grand Slam event, and first event on the WTA Tour. No top seeded women’s player had ever lost this early in the U.S. Open.
So I guess we might all agree Ivanovic shouldn’t be ranked # 1 at this point. She’ll have to work hard to regain her position. Maybe with some room to improve on her ranking, she will buckle down and work hard for improvement. There are a lot of great women tennis players in the top 20 right now. It will be tough for any player to maintain the # 1 ranking.
Congratulations to Serena Williams who took over the # 1 spot this week. She played an excellent tournament and looks like she deserves the # 1 spot!
